Lyric's Story

Lyric’s mother was 13 years old when he was born. It was difficult to find stable housing, and he experienced a lot of neglect during his childhood. He said, ““I grew up an emotionless kid. To this day, I don’t really feel much because that is where I come from. I come from neglect.”

Lyric found ways to survive on the street by teaching himself how to be invisible. One day he looked up “shelters near me” on his phone and Covenant House New Orleans popped up. He called there and residential advisor “Mama Foots” encouraged him to come on over. When he walked in, he felt free and immediately knew he’d be supported and loved.

Lyric was given a pair of clippers to pursue his career as a barber and today he continues to hone his skills while living at Covenant House and preparing for the next step on his journey.
